Square Enix has announced it will be donating $500,000 to the United Nation’s refugee agency to help provide support for Ukrainian people displaced by Russia’s war on the country. In a statement shared on Twitter, Square Enix said, “Square Enix Group today announced the donation of $500,000 to The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in order to provide humanitarian aid to the Ukrainian people who are seeking refuge in neighbouring regions.”It is estimated that nearly three million people have fled Ukraine to surrounding countries such as Poland and Hungary, following the Russian invasion in late February. Square Enix also announced it had launched an employee fundraiser and matching gift program to benefit the Red Cross, UNICEF, and Doctors Without Borders.”We sincerely hope that peace will be restored, and that those affected by the crisis will regain peaceful life as quickly as possible,” Square Enix said. Bandai Namco also recently announced it had made a donation of 100 million yen to Save the Children “in support of their humanitarian cause for people affected by the crisis in Ukraine and seeking refuge outside the country.” Over the past few weeks, numerous video game companies have made donations to charitable organisations in Ukraine, with some also suspending sales of their games and services in Russia and Belarus. We recently spoke with Ukrainian publisher Xitilon, who shared with us his experience of living through Russia’s war on his country. If you would like to help, the $10 itch.io Bundle for Ukraine, which includes nearly 1,000 PC games, is still on sale for another day or so. The bundle has so far raised just over $5.5 million.
