This is the first partnership between a Kansas City sports team and a professional esports organisation,. The MLS team already has a dedicated esports division that participates in eMLS, Major League Soccer’s competitive gaming league. The Pioneers, on the other hand, currently field teams in Rocket League, VALORANT, Madden, and Halo.

Blake McFarland, Director of Fan Development for Sporting KC, commented: “We are extremely excited to work with the KC Pioneers. Like Sporting Kansas City, the Pioneers are a local sports organisation who is proud to represent Kansas City on a global stage. We know this partnership will further connect our fans and the KC Pioneers fans through competitive esports and gaming.”

Sporting KC also announced that the football club will support several of the Pioneers’s esports endeavours, while creating new content around the club’s eMLS athletes, competitions, and events.
