Well-loved co-op game developer Hazelight announced its new game, Split Fiction, at The Game Awards last night. Featuring more two-player fun much like its previous GOTY winner It Takes Two, I’m hoping it finds a place amongst its predecessor amongst the best Xbox Game Pass games when in likely arrives via EA Play!Split Fiction melds sci-fi and fantasy into one co-op Xbox gameSplit Fiction is the new co-op game from the developer of It Takes TwoRelease Date: March 6, 2025Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PCThe Game Awards was full of cool game reveals last night, but I have a special place in my heart for the upcoming co-op game Split Fiction from Hazelight. The concept itself is pretty innovative and the new trailer (chock full of gameplay) is super intriguing.Instead of a therapy session like in It Takes Two, this time we’ll be traversing between the world of sci-fi and fantasy in a weird simulation of two protagonists’ fictional creations mashed together. Game director and founder of Hazelight Studios, Josef Fares, expanded by saying: “Because Mio and Zoe jump back and forth between sci-fi and fantasy worlds we’ve been able to do some really wild things with gameplay and storytelling.”As for the details, Split Fiction already has a release date of March 6, 2025, on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It will cost slightly less than the norm for a AAA game at $49.99 or your regional equivalent.Hazelight and EA are also running the super-cool Friend’s Pass deal again for Split Fiction — if you buy a copy you can invite a mate to jump in for free. I’m speculating that the achievements will work like It Takes Two did, where only the owner of the game will be awarded Gamerscore while the friend will be high and dry. So, if you want the 1,000G, you’ll need a copy yourself.Xbox Game Pass and EA Play is a strong possibility for Split FictionA quick one for those of you with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription — when Hazelight’s It Takes Two was released on March 26, 2021, it ended up on Xbox Game Pass in November 2021. Of course, EA-published games (like Split Fiction) tend to end up as a part of the EA Play subscription which comes with Game Pass Ultimate. So, Split Fiction is likely, though not guaranteed, to end up amongst the EA Play games on Xbox Game Pass if you don’t mind waiting a bit. Of course, if you are interested in the game, I highly recommend checking it out on release. If you are pumped about it and haven’t collected any It Takes Two achievements yet, I highly recommend doing so! It’s great fun, especially when you are playing with a buddy right next to you on the couch. So, are you excited about Split Fiction? Let me know in the comments, TrueAchievements co-op players.
