Players chasing the Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 achievements were treated to a surprise update last week, which added the new Termination Operation, Lethal difficulty, and more. Alongside the new content, several balancing tweaks were also made, leading to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 being review bombed by a wave of disgruntled fans. Saber Interactive has now responded to the complaints and plans to roll out a patch later this week with some “balancing fixes” for the third-person shooter Xbox game. Saber Interactive responds to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 review bombsLast week should have been a highlight for Space Marine 2 fans and Saber Interactive as the game’s first free update kicked off Season 2 with new content. Unfortunately, the festivities were sullied by some unexpected nerfs, which seem to make the game harder overall (and it wasn’t exactly a breeze before that either). Alongside reducing player armor on the Ruthless and Substantial difficulties, Saber also halved the parry window of Fencing melee weapons, although the Chainsword, Power Fist, and Combat Knife did get a “significant damage increase” for the power attach perk. Boss fights are also a lot harder now, as the bonus damage to bosses under the effects of the Auspex Scan used by the Tactical class has also been reduced by 30%. The Melta has also had a 70% reduction in its damage against bosses, but that doesn’t come as much of a surprise due to how overpowered it has been since the game launched.”With Patch 3 we have noticed that Operations mode became noticeably easier, especially Chaos operations. We are happier with what we have right now compared to what we had on release, because before Patch 3 Chaos missions were unpopular. Still, we think that currently Operations mode is a bit too easy,” Saber said in the patch notes. “Overall these changes are going to make Operations mode harder, but it is difficult to measure by how much. We will continue to monitor those changes and will continue to adjust the balance of Operations mode. This is not the last change.”The update led to a wave of negative reviews on Steam and threads on the Space Marine 2 subreddit criticizing Saber’s heavy-handed use of the nerf hammer. The developer has heard the complaints, however, and has confirmed via a post on X that it’s “actively working” on another patch with balancing fixes, which should roll out this week. While Saber Interactive had planned to support Space Marine 2 with free content updates for its PvE and PvP modes, the game’s success now has the developer considering a story expansion too.
