Speaking with Nikkei Asia, Hideaki Nishino, senior vie president in charge of platform experience for Sony, has revealed the format holder is ready to ‘attack’ this holiday season with the PS5, thanks to the release of new hardware. Sony recently launched the PS5 Slim and the PlayStation Portal to market, arriving on the back of a sales resurgence for the PS5 thanks to the console now being readily available. When asked why the company opted to release the new hardware now, Nishino-san replied: Typically, the life cycle of game consoles is said to be seven to eight years. The PS5 was released in November 2020 and is now in its third year, putting it in the middle of that cycle.Because it generally takes three to five years to develop a game title, we’re starting to see an increase in the number of games that take full advantage of the PS5’s features.
