Five years ago, PlayStation VR was unleashed upon the world, ushering in a new era of virtual reality gameplay. To celebrate the peripheral’s fifth birthday, Sony will be giving a gift to all PlayStation Plus members. Beginning next month, all PS+ members will get three bonus PSVR games for free. There are no other details on how the promotion will work, although we’re assuming the games will arrive at the same time as the usual PlayStation Plus Instant Games Collection titles on the first Tuesday of the month. We’re also not sure for how long the promotion will last seeing as similar giveaways have only lasted for a few months. Sony has promised more information “in the next few weeks.” They haven’t yet announced which free games are coming to the service.Since PSVR arrived five years ago, there have been more than 500 games released for the peripheral. Sony gathered the hours played data for all of those games and released lists of the most played titles globally, as well as in all three Sony Interactive Entertainment regions:Most Played PSVR Games: GlobalRec RoomBeat SaberPlayStation VR WorldsThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VRResident Evil 7 biohazardMost Played PSVR Games: EuropeRec RoomPlayStation VR WorldsBeat SaberThe Elder Scrolls: Skyrim VRResident Evil 7 biohazardMost Played PSVR Games: North AmericaRec RoomBeat SaberThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VRJob SimulatorFirewall: Zero HourMost Played PSVR Games: JapanResident Evil 7 biohazardThe Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VRPlayStation VR WorldsBeat SaberGran Turismo SportThe two consistent titles in every list are Beat Saber and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR. Others came close, but Rec Room fell off the Japan list, while PlayStation VR Worlds and Resident Evil 7 biohazard didn’t make the North American list.As well as celebrating those games that have contributed to PSVR’s success, a new trailer took a look at some of the games coming soon, including Wanderer, Puzzle Bobble 3D; Vacation Odyssey, Moss Book II, and After The Fall. Sony is currently working on the next iteration of PSVR for the PlayStation 5. Details on what many people have dubbed PSVR 2 are scarce, but we do know it will increase screen resolution (rumored to be 4K), decrease the number of cables needed, and will have a new motion controller. There will also be a “focus on console-quality AAA titles” with some original PSVR games remastered for the new peripheral.[Source: PlayStation Blog]
