When it comes to long-running video game franchises, it’s not unheard of for developers to change, remove, and overhaul features. Whether these changes end up being for better or worse is subjective, but with Battlefield 2042, it looks like a lot of things just went wrong. We knew that a traditional campaign was out of the picture, for example, but having fewer gun choices is a bit surprising.Reddit user Jellyswim decided to compile an exhaustive list of things that were found in previous Battlefield games that didn’t make it into Battlefield 2042‘s base game (minus Portal), and while much of the complaints are subjective, we can see why Jellyswim’s list went viral. It’s pretty long, and a surprising read at times.Highlights include:No standard server browserFewer standard game modes, like Team DeathmatchNo standard hardcore modeNo persistent lobbies (requiring matchmaking after every round)Less character customization optionsNo profile progress/stats page in the menuNo battle log/stats tracker for other playersNo global leader boardsFewer gunsFewer infantry gadgetsNo manual leaningNo diving while swimmingNo high wall vaultingNo crouch sprintingNo backwards proneNo explosion knockbackNo rolling after falling from heightsNo ammo or health pickup off teammatesFewer vehicle typesNo naval vehiclesNo vehicle enter/exit animationsNo player damage pointsNo vehicle damage pointsNo vehicle kill assist pointsFewer base game mapsNo static weapon emplacementsLess control customization optionsLess UI customization optionsNo HUD/icon opacity customizationNo HUD scaling customization optionsNo network performance graphNo individual player scoreboardJellyswim’s list is twice the size of these highlights and is broken down into segments. Suffice to say, Battlefield 2042‘s change in direction got off on the wrong foot. For its part, DICE has said that it’ll address some of the most pressing issues soon.[Source: Reddit via IGN]
