Game Pass newcomer The Last Case of Benedict Fox has plenty of challenges to overcome and mysteries to solve, but it could actually be a very simple completion if you use its suite of difficulty-reducing options. If you’re planning on going for The Last Case of Benedict Fox achievements, you may be interested to know that Plot Twist’s paranormal Metroidvania, which dropped in alongside the best games on Game Pass yesterday, has a host of options to make the game much easier… and they don’t impact the ability to unlock achievements. The Last Case of Benedict Fox is an easier completion than it looksDifficulty options for The Last Case of Benedict Fox are handily split into three categories, allowing you to tailor the experience for how you want to play, and none of these prevent you from unlocking achievements, nor are any of the harder settings required for the completion. First up is combat, with the default setting actually putting up a decent fight until you grab a few upgrades and start to understand the systems properly. This difficulty can either be reduced to make normal enemies die in one hit, or raised to increase their damage output, and each option has its own separate sub-setting; the easy mode comes with the option of invulnerability, while the tougher one has a one-hit deaths option for the ultimate challenge.Next is puzzle difficulty, which has only two settings: Benedict Fox (the default), which will have you racking your brain to crack codes and use ciphers to unlock secrets, and an easy setting that enables an ‘auto-solve’ option for any puzzle for which you have collected any relevant clues or keys. Final, there’s exploration. By default, all possible exploration routes remaining on the map are marked as question marks, so you need to keep a mental note of which require keys, abilities, clues, and so on. Like combat, challenge here can be raised or lowered, either turning those question marks into specific icons pertaining to what is needed (normal movement routes and ones for which you don’t have the required skill or item still appear as question marks), or removing them entirely for those who, as the setting says, “love exploring.” By dropping all three of these difficulty settings, you’ll trivialise the majority of the game bar perhaps some of the trickier platforming, turning a moderately challenging completion into a very easy one, so you can mix and match these as you see fit as you go for the achievements. Will you be using these options to help ol’ Ben solve his last case?
