According to a recent press release for the start of Season 1: Raging Tides, Skull and Bones is setting new engagement records for Ubisoft, even if it hasn’t made it onto our list of the best open-world games on Xbox. However, our data reveals that it might not be the tightest ship, but hopefully, the release of Raging Tides will pull some players back to the game to finish off the Skull and Bones achievements. Skull and Bones launched on Xbox Series X|S on February 13 as Ubisoft’s first “quadruple-A” game, according to the company’s CEO Yves Guillemot. While it has launched to generally average reviews from both critics and players, Ubisoft says, “Skull and Bones has achieved record player engagement, with over four hours of average daily playtime, the second highest ever at Ubisoft.”Skull and Bones’ Xbox player base is slowly sinkingA recent report from Insider Gaming suggests that even with free trial players lumped in, Skull and Bones only has around 850,000 players sailing across its seas. Its $70 price tag is likely contributing to its lower player count. According to one of Insider Gaming’s sources, even the devs think that’s a steep mark: “I think we all know this is a $30-$40 game at best, but it’s not in our control to determine those things,” the anonymous employee said. What’s more, we’ve seen Skull and Bones also starting to tumble down our Xbox Gameplay Chart. Skull and Bones debuted on our chart at 30th, but by the start of this week, it had dropped to 37th.A reason for Skull and Bones leaking players could be down to a limited amount of endgame activities, so, now that Season 1: Raging Tides is available for free, it could plug that hole. Raging Tides introduces a new world event called Tides of Terror, which sees you take on the pirate lord Phillipe La Peste’s Fleet of Pestilence, before eventually facing the pirate lord himself at his port of Blighted Bastion. Alongside Raging Tides, the season also introduces Elite Warships from some of the megacorporations as new world events, fresh Bounties, and a host of leaderboard rewards filled with gameplay items and cosmetics. Are you still playing Skull and Bones, or have you joined the increasing number of players playing Assassin’s Creed Black Flag?
