Red Sox fans made it clear they want Shohei Ohtani in Boston recently, but that’s been raised tenfold after seeing his Yankee Stadium exploits.
Shohei Ohtani and the Los Angeles Angels were in Boston just this past weekend and the Red Sox faithful at Fenway Park made it abundantly clear how much they wanted the two-way Japanese superstar to play his home games there in the future. And aside from the rain on Patriots Day, the feeling appeared to be at least partially mutual.
There’s every reason why fans would be pining for that, to be sure. Ohtani is one of the best power hitters in baseball while simultaneously being a dominant pitcher on the mound. It’s a dream that you’d think you’d only see in a video game, but he consistently delivers for the Angels — even if the club hasn’t done the same.
And those feelings for the Red Sox are only growing stronger after Tuesday night.
With Ohtani and Los Angeles heading on the road trip to Yankee Stadium, Ohtani made quick work of New York’s pitching as he absolutely blasted a home run in the first inning 391 feet into right center to give the Halos an early lead.
Shohei Ohtani owning Yankee Stadium only has Red Sox fans dreaming more
All Red Sox fans have to do is close their eyes and just imagine that same scene but with Ohtani in a Boston jersey. Sounds peachy, right?
Of course, as Ohtani is scheduled to become a free agent this offseason and surely set the record for the richest MLB contract ever, the Red Sox will have stiff competition to sign the two-way superstar. And really, if Boston doesn’t find more success in the 2023 season, the club might not be the most attractive of options with teams like the Dodgers, Mets, Giants and more in the mix.
Even still, the Red Sox have deep pockets — even if they haven’t shown it all too much lately — and could still be in the fray for Ohtani. And if he’s going to put baseballs into the outfield bleachers in Yankee Stadium like he did on Tuesday, fans will only want that more in Boston.
