Server closure announced for Xbox Game Pass roguelike shooter

Following server closure announcements for Warface: Breakout, three Xbox 360 Ubisoft games, and Second Extinction, we have yet another server shutdown on the way. Developer Action Square has confirmed that its roguelike action-shooter Anvil: Vault Breaker will no longer be available to purchase from November 30 and that servers for the current Xbox Game Pass title will close on December 31, rendering the game unplayable. In a statement posted on the Anvil Discord, Action Square said: “We regret to inform our Xbox users that we’ll be phasing out service for Anvil on Xbox in the coming months. “We will stop selling the package version of Anvil on Xbox on November 30, 2023, PST. Subsequently, the Xbox Game Pass/Game Preview service for Anvil will stop on December 31, 2023, PST. Please note that you will no longer be able to play Anvil on Xbox after this date. “Thank you all for your support. It’s been a fun and exciting experience for us to service Anvil on the Xbox platform.”A reason as to why Anvil: Vault Breaker is being shut down on Xbox hasn’t been provided, but an older FAQ post from July earlier this year reveals that the publishing rights for the Xbox version currently belong to another publisher. “Some of you have asked about Xbox/Game Pass support for the upcoming release,” the post reads. “While it’s not easy to say, releasing version 1.0 on these platforms will prove to be difficult at this time.”The current version was released with another publisher, and the rights to the publishing on Xbox belongs to them, so we unfortunately don’t have a solid timeline that we can commit to at this time. We understand a lot of you are looking forward to the new release on Xbox and would love to continue to play it on the platform you’ve been playing for so long, and we’re devastated that we can’t give you that experience at this time.”In the interest of transparency, we plan on releasing on Steam this week and are considering other potential platforms in the near future. Once that happens, and the need for the game on other platforms is there, we will strive to get the game in its latest version back onto Xbox.”Sadly, it looks like whatever these publishing issues were, the Anvil team never managed to resolve them.Once the server closure hits on December 31, all Anvil: Vault Breaker achievements will be discontinued. If you are thinking of going for the completion, unlocking all achievements from the base game will take between 100 and 120 hours. There are also two title updates with a total of 23 achievements spread between them, though they do not feature any Gamerscore. Completing those will take an additional 31-37 hours.Don’t forget you can work through the Anvil: Vault Breaker achievements with other TA users by joining or setting up a boosting session. Thanks to Galaqua for the heads-up.
