American rapper, singer, and songwriter Saweetie has joined forces with multinational esports organisation Gen.G to create a range of educational workshops.

As part of the collaboration, the two parties will attempt to raise awareness and engagement for Saweetie’s Icy Baby Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation created to inspire youth through ‘financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and technology training’.

According to a release, workshops will combine gaming with cookery, music, lifestyle, and beauty.

Alongside raising awareness for the foundation, Gen.G content creators will participate in a gaming workshop that will take place on June 16th. The partnership places emphasis on highlighting creators of Asian and Asian American Pacific Islander descent.

Saweete spoke on the partnership: “Now is the time to come together and support each other as we fight to end Asian Hate. I am excited to partner with Gen.G to connect with our fans in new and inventive ways to have real conversations about making positive changes in our community.”

Gina Chung Lee, Vice President of Brand for Gen.G, also commented: “So many Asian Americans are in the forefront of gaming, music and fashion, but rarely get the spotlight that they deserve; it’s great to partner with an advocate and entrepreneur like Saweetie. As an AAPI woman, growing up there wasn’t always mainstream representation and celebration. It’s very meaningful to be able to shape and empower the next generation of leaders across all digital platforms and create cool content while doing so.”

Esports Insider says: Gen.G is no stranger to participating in educational projects and given its wealth of experience, it’s a smart move for Saweetie and the Icy Baby Foundation to join forces with the organisation.
