Samsung One UI 7 based on Android 15 is only arriving next year

Google released Android 15 into the Android Open Source Project recently and is expected to start rolling out updates to its Pixel smartphones on October 15. With that in mind, you may have been wondering when Samsung’s One UI 7 based on Android 15 would come out, especially considering the fact that the Korean company was among the fastest with issuing previous major updates in recent years.

We now know, and it’s not good news if you’re impatient. According to the keynote at Samsung’s ongoing developer conference, One UI 7 will only be released when the Galaxy S25 series is launching (most likely in January). Updates to older devices should start right after that, presumably. There will be a One UI 7 beta preview coming out this year, however. Hear all the details for yourself in the embedded keynote video below. The One UI 7 talk starts at about minute 22, and the release information is at 24:30.

That’s a much delayed timeframe compared to what Samsung has gotten us used to in past years, so you’ll need quite a bit of patience. On the flip side, the company promises a full redesign is coming with One UI 7, with a design language that focuses on being simple, impactful, and emotive, whatever any of that is supposed to mean in this context.

The only more solid detail is the fact that the home screen grid will be redesigned, somehow. It might also get less customizable, if we read between the lines correctly, as Good Lock was offered as the option for those who want to go wild with customizations.
