Saints make addition in secondary with PJ Williams in mind

Ian Rapoport reports the New Orleans Saints made an addition in the secondary, acquiring Jeff Heath, formerly of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Saints fans, I hope you’re holding onto something or sitting down… because I have good news and bad news. The good news is the Saints have got an extra hand for the secondary in Jeff Heath, who’s coming from the Las Vegas Raiders.

The bad news is, according to Ian Rapoport, this could put PJ Williams at cornerback.

This could bode well in some areas, but for others, it may be a detriment. Even the quote tweets would agree with the detrimental part of the previously stated sentiments. We all know what happens when you put PJ at corner… bad things.

Jeff Heath will prove as a valuable asset, but PJ Williams at corner is dicey

Friendly reminder that the Raiders also gave the Saints a run for their money on defense in the 2020 season. Heath wasn’t a major contributor in that particular game, but he was an asset throughout the season, with three interceptions with the Raiders. This makes a great addition to the secondary… but what about PJ?

It sounds scary to think about, but Williams may not play corner as frequently as it seems. This is particularly important since C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Malcolm Jenkins are still active. It doesn’t mean he can’t be ruled out at a starting spot, but assuming the first string corners stay healthy, Williams will mainly play his primary position.

So sleep well tonight, Saints fans, no need to worry.
