Free agent wide receiver Jarvis Landry is expected to visit the New Orleans Saints this week.
The New Orleans Saints are going another year with Jameis Winston at quarterback, who performed well prior to his season-ending knee injury. But, if there is one thing that plagued the team’s offense last year, and it was the lack of quality wide receivers on the depth chart. The Saints are looking to fix that this offseason.
According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, former Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jarvis Landry is expected to visit with the Saints this week. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reports that Landry will be visiting on Wednesday.
Saints bringing in veteran wide receiver for visit ahead of draft
Landry was given permission to seek a trade off the Browns this offseason, but he was ultimately released from his contract after the team could not find a deal with another team. Landry has since been on the open market. And as Fowler mentions in his tweet, the Browns are in the mix for Landry. In fact, Landry’s agent has said that there is “mutual interest” in a return to Cleveland.
It is interesting that Landry is visiting New Orleans. The Saints hold the No. 16 and 19 overall picks in the 2022 NFL Draft following their trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. That puts them in position to take one of the top wide receivers in the class, if they choose to stay put. Even if the team drafts a wideout, adding Landry to the wide receivers room would certainly improve the passing offense on paper.
Besides, it would be a bit of a homecoming for Landry, as he grew up in Louisiana and played college football for LSU.
This past season, Landry caught 52-of-87 targets for 570 yards and two touchdowns through 12 games with the Browns.
Landry’s status will be worth monitoring throughout the week, specifically in regards to whether he opts to sign with the team or not.
