The Royal Navy’s Director of Force Generation has officially opened a new hangar at Predannack Airfield in Cornwall, which is being developed as the National Drone Hub.
Rear Admiral Anthony Rimington was invited to the airfield on the Lizard Peninsula last week to open the hangar operated by company WholeShip. He is pictured with company director Dan Stembridge.
Also pictured is the commanding officer of Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose Captain James Hall alongside members of the navy’s drone unit 700X Naval Air Squadron, WholeShip staff, the head of strategic partnerships at Cornwall Space Cluster Gail Eastaugh, and contractors whose companies helped build the new hangar.
Predannack Airfield is owned and operated by RNAS Culdrose at Helston and 700X NAS routinely use the site to test drones.
The National Drone Hub is an overarching name for all the organisations involved in expanding Predannack. WholeShip is developing the site as a centre of expertise in drone technology.
It has safe airspace away from the helicopters at nearby RNAS Culdrose and access to the military exercise areas off the south coast.
