McIlroy, Scott and Bradley were initially joined by Tyrrell Hatton, however the Englishman was cut from the squad soon after, following his move to the LIV setup this time last year.Prior to his LIV switch, Hatton spoke of his excitement to join TGL, especially with the Boston setup backed by Fenway Sports Group (FSG) the owners of his football club, Liverpool.”Being a part of the Fenway Sports Group family through Boston Common Golf is truly surreal,” Hatton said at the time. “As a lifelong Liverpool F.C. fan, it’s a dream come true to be part of the same ownership group.”This is an incredible opportunity to represent the spirit of excellence and winning that Fenway Sports Group embodies, and to play with some of the golfers I have admired throughout my career.”For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US.Tyrrell Hatton joined LIV Golf(Image: Getty Images)Of course come opening night for the Boston side, Hatton is no longer a member having given up his PGA Tour playing rights on the back of his Saudi switch. Despite losing a teammate to the LIV setup, McIlroy believes that TGL’s team product is superior to the one used on the breakaway circuit.“I think that’s what TGL has done maybe a little bit better to connect with certain fan bases than, say, LIV, for example,” he said last month. But I see this as all being complementary. Obviously, there’s only so many weeks in the year. There’s only so much golf we can all play. But I say this as being complementary to everything else that is going on in the world of golf.”And I also see it as — look, there’s no — I’m still a traditionalist in a lot of ways. There’s no replicating championship golf. I think that’s always going to be around. It always will be around.“But I think there are certain things that we can do to innovate and try to maybe try to appeal to a different and younger demographic, especially trying to condense it into a time frame that is a little bit more digestible and putting it on at a time where we’re maybe going to get a few more eyeballs as well.”
