Redmi president Thomas Wang revealed the Xiaomi brand is launching new series called Turbo. They will sit between the K and Note series and will be all about performance. It’s first member will be called Redmi Turbo 3, and it might be a new name for the Redmi Note 13 Turbo.
In a lengthy post, followed by a Q&A session on social media, Wang explained the idea behind Turbo – it will be a lineup of phones that will “reshape the midrange market”.
By the looks of it, the Redmi K phones will remain the “flagship killer” devices, the Redmi Turbo will fit below them with a focus on performance, while the Redmi Note will balance with better camera setups.
The first phone in the series is Turbo 3 because it is the third phone in the Redmi portfolio, aiming to provide raw performance at a lower price (at the expense of other flagship specs) – the first was the Redmi Note 11T Pro, and then it was the Redmi Note 12 Turbo; clearly, we are not getting a Note 13 Turbo. There was no word on whether the phone will also launch as Poco F6 since Thomas Wang spoke to the Chinese audience, and the Poco lineup is not offered in China.
This new series will likely make the Xiaomi portfolio even more confusing, but at least we’re not getting a new Redmi Note – the 11 series had 18 different variants while the 12 series were slightly more modest with “only” 13 different variants that weren’t that different at all.
