The Redmi 14C 5G is a ₹10K phone, which claims to have the segment’s most efficient 4nm chipset and the biggest 120Hz display. And it has big shoes to fill too, as it is the successor to the top 5G phone of H1 2024 in India (in terms of shipments, data by Canalys).

Let’s start from the top. The Redmi 14C 5G will go on sale on January 10 (this Friday) with a base price of ₹10,000 – this is for the 4/64GB model. There are upgrade options available, 4/128GB for ₹11,000 and 6/128GB for ₹12,000.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, the first 4nm chip in the 4-series. It features two Cortex-A78 cores (2.2GHz) and six A55 (1.95GHz), an Adreno 613 GPU and a X61 modem with dual 5G support and downlink speeds of up to 2.5Gbps. It is paired with 4/6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64/128GB UFS 2.2 storage. The latter is expandable with microSD cards of up to 1TB with a dedicated slot (so you can still use two SIM cards).

The IPS LCD on the front has grown bigger and faster – it is now a 6.88” panel with 120Hz refresh rate (up from 6.74” 90Hz) – however, it still only has HD+ resolution.

The camera system didn’t see much of an upgrade, it still features a 50MP main and a helper on the back. The selfie camera did get a new 8MP sensor (up from 5MP), but video recording is limited to 1080p @ 30fps for both.

The 14C retains the 3.5mm headphone jack and its single loudspeaker is 50% louder than the speaker on the previous model.

The phone comes in three colorways: Starlight Blue, which weighs 205g, plus Stardust Purple and Stargaze Black, which are heavier at 212g. The difference is due to the “glass back design” on the latter two.

Anyway, 205g is more than the 2024 phone weighed, but the new one comes with a slightly larger 5,160mAh battery (up 160mAh). The battery is rated for 1,000 cycles. Charging is still limited to 18W, but you get a 33W charger in the box that you can use with your other USB-C compatible gadgets too (which will soon be all of them). The body is rated IP52 for basic splash resistance.

The Redmi 14C 5G can be found on the Xiaomi India site and you can sign up for a reminder when it launches on Friday. The phone comes with HyperOS based on Android 14 out of the box and will receive software support for 2 years and security patches for 4 years.
