Realme 14 Pro+ in for review

We have the new Realme 14 Pro+ at the office so let’s do an unboxing. The global unit ships without the 80W charger you get in China. The rest of the accessories are the same – you get a case, and a USB-A to USB-C cable.

Realme touts the 14 Pro+ as the World’s first cold-sensitive color-changing phone. Like sea creatures like jellyfish and octopus, the Realme 14 Pro+ has thermochromic pigments in its rear panel that react to temperature changes.

The phone’s pearlescent white and orange rear panel changes color to shades of blue when touched by a cold substance like ice or cold water. The colder the substance, the quicker the color change.

It’s a neat trick but even without it, we like the design of the back panel. The phone has other unique traits as well. The camera system is surrounded by no less than three LED lights, tasked with creating low-light shots with correct color temperature and professional-level light fill.

You can let the phone decide the color temperature or take control.

As a package, the 14 Pro+ is quite solid. It packs a large 6.83-inch 1272x2800px 120Hz AMOLED, and a larger still 6,000mAh battery with 80W charging (supply your own brick, though). There’s a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and the body is IP68/IP69 rated so you needn’t worry about dust or water.

The camera system is truly impressive for the class with a 50MP 1/1.56-inch main camera, an 8MP 1/4.0-inch ultrawide, and a 50MP 1/1.95-inch 3x periscope zoom.

Who needs a flagship in 2025 anyway?
