Ubisoft has released a new trailer for Rainbox Six Extraction, with all the alien blasting and trapping one could want from fan favourite operators. The new footage highlights gameplay, as well as all the ways you will be progressing through the game. First and foremost come the operators, with more combinations for your three-person team than you could possibly want. Obviously, the root of success here is with the return of Lord King Tachanka’s turret. With 12 maps also included — across San Francisco, New Mexico, Alaska, and New York — it seems that the three times scale of the Seige-based maps will have procedurally generated parts. Within each, there will be 13 varieties of missions to keep you occupied. The 25 gadgets will be your friend, with plenty of new goodies to help keep your heart beating in the face of some very unhappy aliens. The 65 custom-designed weapons seem imported from Seige, though it is hard to work out what Ubi mean when it says ‘custom,’ here. There are 13 enemy archetypes, all of which will have a different combination of mutations and abilities that should result in some wild dynamic gameplay, if pulled off successfully. There are also the Proteans themselves, who are able to become a shadow version of your operators with an alien twist. The newest tidbit in the trailer that could offer an interesting little bit of risk-reward is the “deep progression system.” This will allow you to be extracted at a certain point in the mission, but will offer you a tempting opportunity to collect more rewards first. The prize could be tied to your operator’s gear, weaponry, or abilities. It sounds much like a skill tree, with an ability upgrade for team stealth-cloak or an electric hammer given as an example. There seems to be a broader progression tree that will unlock extra lore, maps, and difficulty levels. We are a little bit concerned about locking content and difficulty under a very battle pass-looking system, though it could just be a like-for-like replacement for the normal ways one would progress through a game with a different aesthetic trapping. Thematic events are also teased at the end of the trailer alongside a ranked mode, so this will definitely be a game for the long haul if it grabs your attention. Rainbow Six Extraction is releasing sometime in January on Xbox One and Series X|S. Will you be out there fighting aliens? Is your LMG mounted? Let us know in the comments!
