Quinn Ewers skipping senior season to enroll early at Ohio State

Quinn Ewers could leave high school a year early to join the Ohio State football program.

Name, image and likeness could force top high school quarterback recruit, Quinn Ewers, out of high school a year early and onto the Ohio State football team.

Ewers is the No. 1 overall recruit, according to the 247Sports Composite. The Southlake, Texas native has been committed to Ohio State since Nov. 2020. While he could play his senior year of high school for Southlake Carroll in suburban Dallas, this would be contingent on Texas’ University Interscholastic League allowing him to profit on NIL.

Otherwise, he could leave for Columbus, according to Pete Thame of Yahoo!.

Ewers needs one core English class to be able to graduate later this summer and enroll early at Ohio State University for the fall semester.

“I don’t really know, I don’t have a final decision made quite yet,” said Ewers to Yahoo’s Pete Thamel over the phone on Wednesday. “I’m leaning toward leaving and going up to Ohio, just so I don’t have to deal with UIL stuff and can get comfortable with Ohio and Columbus and start to learn.”

Ohio State football: Quinn Ewers could skip senior season because of NIL laws

While his parents do not want him to be a martyr, they could be missing out on an incredible opportunity to make seven figures off their son’s name, image and likeness.

This new nationwide legislation allowed earlier this month is not only reshaping the landscape of college athletics but is having a profound impact on major high school athletics already. Ewers is at the forefront of it.

Given that Ohio State will have a new starting quarterback this year, whether that be CJ Stroud, Jack Miller III or true freshman Kyle McCord, arriving a semester earlier than expected could go a long way toward Ewers winning the job for the 2022 college season. His potential Columbus arrival puts a great deal of pressure on the entire Buckeyes quarterbacking room.

While Ewers could play his senior season in 2021, NIL will be what gets him to Ohio State sooner.
