According to a renowned Ice Universe, Qualcomm is looking to make the switch from Samsung foundries to TSMC for the making of its flagship SoC for 2H 2022. The chip will likely be called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ going by previous releases.
Interestingly enough, we heard a rumor claiming that Qualcomm is already moving part of its current SD 8 Gen 1 production to TSMC from Samsung. But the reason cited back then was that Samsung’s yields are unsatisfactory while today’s report points to issues with the manufacturing process.
Allegedly, the suboptimal manufacturing process leads to higher power draw. We are yet to find out whether this is true or not and if there will be a significant discrepancy between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Gen 1+ power consumption.
