German esports organisation Berlin International Gaming (BIG) and professional services provider PwC Germany have joined forces to release an esports booklet.

Called ‘Esports in Germany – In a Global Context’, the over 100-page booklet aims to provide an in-depth look into the esports market for German audiences.

Some of the topics that are discussed in the booklet, which is published in German, include esports’ history, current developments and future projections. Moreover, subjects such as ‘esports winter’, branding and production, the media landscape, and the esports industry’s professionalisation have been written about.

According to a release, the booklet features a variety of German stakeholders who have contributed to the project. Ralf Reichert, CEO of Esports World Cup Foundation, Anne Banschbach, Director of Esports of Team Vitality, Arwin Fallah Shirazi, Co-Founder and CEO of Shikenso and Ulrich Schulze, SVP of Game Ecosystems at ESL FACEIT Group, among many others, are featured in the booklet.

Widely regarded as a hub for European esports, Germany has hosted a range of international esports events for many years. In 2024 the country will host the upcoming Apex ALGS Split 2 Playoffs 2024 (Mannheim) and the 2024 LEC Season Finals (Munich). Earlier this year the inaugural FC Pro World Championship took place in the country.

PwC’s German division is also no stranger to analysing the esports industry with the company previously publishing esports studies in 2019 and 2020. Meanwhile, BIG has been a major stakeholder in the German esports scene since its creation in 2017. The organisation currently has competitive rosters in League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, Fortnite and Tekken.

Daniel Finkler, CEO of BIG, commented on the booklet: “PwC and I shared a core idea and common goal: to create a central knowledge platform for German esports within a global context.

“This booklet not only highlights the impressive development of esports over the past decades but also offers valuable insights and multifaceted perspectives from key personalities, witnesses, and pioneers in the industry. We are thrilled to contribute significantly to the visibility and further professionalisation of the industry in Germany with this booklet.”
