The PS5 has once again come out on top as the best-selling console in Japan for a second week running, beating out perennial competitor Nintendo Switch in the process. As per Twitter account Genki_JPN, Sony’s current-generation console sold 49,945 units in Japan, with the Switch coming in second place with 46,435 units moved during the same period. Sony announced in December last year that the PS5 has moved 50 million units worldwide, up 10 million from July the same year.As previously reported, the PS5 had suffered from major stock shortages since its launch in November 2020 due to issues brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. While retailers were able restock the console sporadically, they quickly sold out, and the issue was further exacerbated by scalpers reselling PS5 at a huge price hike.Related Content – Upcoming PS5 Games 2024: The Best PS5 Games Coming SoonThe PS5 saw the launch of the colloquially-dubbed PS5 Slim in November, which aims to replace the launch model going forward.[Source – Genki_JPN on Twitter]
