PS3 Backwards Compatibility For PS5 Rumours Backed Up By Jeff Grubb: ‘It’s Something I’ve Heard Has Been In The Works’

Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb has revealed that he’s also heard that Sony is quietly working on PS3 backwards compatibility for the PS5, following yesterday’s reports from XboxEra’s Nick Baker that the feature is in the pipeline.Speaking during the latest Game Mess Mornings podcast, Grubb commented he expected the feature to be announced earlier this year, which obviously didn’t come to pass.It’s something that I’ve heard has been in the works for quite some time. I thought it was going to get revealed earlier this year when I first heard about it. As such, while some games are available on the PS Plus Premium lineup, they can only be streamed to your console, not downloaded.Originally launched in 2006, early models of the PS3 were fully backwards compatible with previous PlayStation hardware, able to play PS2 and PSOne discs out of the box.
