Director Hideo Kojima has shared the broadcast details for PlayStation’s forthcoming State of Play event, fuelling rumours that Death Stranding 2 will feature in the presentation.Shortly after Sony announced its first PlayStation State of Play of 2024, confirming it will take place on January 31 at 2pm Pacific / 5pm Eastern / 10pm UK, Kojima advertised the event on Instagram. The broadcast getting a shoutout from Kojima indicates Death Stranding 2 will be one of the 15 plus games covered in the 40 minute showcase.Death Stranding fans took this as near-confirmation they would be getting more details about the highly anticipated sequel to the original game. “Finally Death Stranding 2 second trailer,” one person wrote in the comments section, while another added: “It’s happening. Everybody remain calm.”We know very little about Death Stranding 2 beyond its official reveal at The Game Awards 2022, which offered a look at Fragile and an older Sam Bridges. At the time, Kojima said that after the COVID-19 pandemic, he rewrote the entire script for the game from scratch because he “didn’t want to predict any more future”.It’s currently unknown whether Death Stranding 2 will come out in 2024, as Kojima has had his attention split between the post-apocalypic sequel and his freshly revealed OD, created in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios and Get Out director Jordan Peele, who claimed the project is “immersive” and “utterly terrifying”.Several other titles have been rumoured for the State of Play show in addition to Death Stranding 2. They include the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater, with the only confirmed appearances being Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, both coming to PS5 this year.Adele Ankers-Range is a freelance entertainment writer for IGN.
