UFC Phil Hawes cites a change in mindset as the biggest reason for his seven-fight winning streak ahead of UFC Vegas 39.

Phil Hawes has flown under the radar in the UFC’s middleweight division with wins over his past seven fights. Entering his fight with Deron Winn at UFC Vegas 39, he intends to keep his mindset the same to put on another spectacular performance.

Hawes had his fair share of ups and downs from a skill standpoint early on in his career. But, during his UFC Vegas 39 pre-fight press conference, he explained what changed for him that has led to his incredible run.

“It’s more about the performances,” “Earlier in my career, I was more worried about winning, and that’s why I had ups and downs. At the end of the day, if I put on the performance I expect from myself, the winning will come.”

Hawes first earned the attention of the UFC brass after a first-round knockout on Season 4 of Dana White’s Contender Series over Khadzhimurat Bestaev. It didn’t take long to get settled into the UFC picture, as he has won three straight since signing with the promotion.

Winn presents a tough challenge for Hawes, as he has strong wrestling prowess to go along with powerful hands. He’s coming off arguably the best performance of his career against Antonio Arroyo at UFC Vegas 17.

It’s clear that Hawes has focused on the mental aspect of the fight game in recent months, and he’ll look to put on another great outing against Winn at UFC Vegas 39.

UFC Vegas 39 takes place on Oct. 9, 2021, live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, NV. Follow along with FanSided who is on-site for all your live news and highlights.
