Does this national pastime translate to the world of video games, or is there no substitute for the original?

Anybody who’s ever tuned into The Price is Right knows of the sheer joy a Plinko set up brings to the table. After pressing the token dropper button, you watch the little multicolored token ball bounce across the pegs and land into one of the slots. There’s a bit of a cooldown, but clicking the large button drops a ball that’s guaranteed to net you some cash. Each slot has a multiplier attached to it, granting you anywhere from 0.5x to a sizable 10x from the offset.
However, things get fun when you start adding PEGGO!’s upgrades into the mix. You might have all the money in the world, but why not spend that cash to make even more cash? There are dozens to choose from, each with their own price point. Some of the cheaper ones add a bit of an advantage, such as dropping the ball from random points or increasing the multiplier for each slot.
Those in it for the long haul will be able to make some serious dosh if they stick with it long enough. For those that play their cards right, they can have the game play itself as they watch their total funds rise up. After about an hour of play, our operation was a lucrative one, the screen filled to the brim with a brilliant technicolor display of happy little tokens. For the especially dedicated among us, upgrades around $1,243,098,340 are perfect for high rollers.
It can be oddly cathartic just clicking on the button and watching the numbers go up – PEGGO! Is essentially a skinner box that supplies some of that much-needed dopamine that gamers crave. It’s just a shame that the carrot on a stick isn’t the tastiest in the world – once you nab a number of its upgrades, there’s little reason to keep pressing on. Sure, you can have more money than Daddy Warbucks and Scrooge McDuck combined, but what’s the point other than getting another upgrade?
While the multicolored balls make quite the display, PEGGO!’s presentation is a bit on the basic side. Its black backdrop and overly simple style doesn’t quite capture the glitz and glamour of the pachinko parlors of the world. What you see is what you get, which might be a dealbreaker for those looking for some eye candy.
Those with the gambler’s spirit will enjoy raking in the dough with PEGGO!’s pachinko action, but this cathartic experience is a bit repetitive. It’s great for fans of multiplier frenzies, but less so for those looking for something a bit meatier.
