Starbreeze Studios’ recent livestream to celebrate Payday’s tenth anniversary uncovered a few details about Payday 3, including its New York City setting, the return of the series’ characters, and more. Slip on your best clown mask because Chains, Dallas, Hoxton, and Wolf are back once again to pilfer as many valuables as they can get their hands on. The news comes via the Payday tenth anniversary livestream held by Starbreeze (thanks, Eurogamer), which saw Payday 3 game director, Erik Wonnevi, divulge a little more information about the next chapter of the series. Set several years after the events of Payday 2, in which the gang had retired from their life of crime and the subsequent infamy associated with the media covering their exploits, Payday 3 takes us to the big apple, New York City, which Starbreeze says is a “living, enormous representation of the city.” During the gang’s hiatus, “the world of Payday has transitioned into the digital age,” says Starbreeze. “With software giants, cryptocurrencies, mass surveillance and the Dark Web all playing a role in the gang’s new gadgets, challenges and opportunities.” Due to currently unconfirmed reasons, Chains, Dallas, Hoxton, and Wolf return to a life of crime, and the new opportunities associated with the new world order. The livestream didn’t offer any visuals of Payday 3, aside from a few snapshots of the character models and some environment art.
