Toronto Defiant looks for their best season on their fourth rebuild.

With some of the most notable players on their team, the Toronto Defiant has a shot at residing at the top of the league.

Toronto Defiant Roster

Tanks

  • Young-hun “MuZe” Kim
  • Hong-joon “HOTBA” Choi

One of the most solid Tank lines in Overwatch League this year. The flexibility and skill level between these two players is Championship team worthy. Neither player is a starter or backup. Each is on the team for meta flexibility, and no matter who is playing in the Tank position, they will be a top-notch leader for the team.

HOTBA, on his fourth team in five seasons, is one of the most veteran players in the league. Not only his renowned for his experience, but he’s always been regarded as one of the best Off-Tanks there is. His hero pool differs plenty from MuZe’s, but to add to the team’s flexibility, HOTBA is also very flexible in his own right. There is no Off-Tank that would be unusual to see him play. Having started professional Overwatch back in 2017, he played in a time where proficiency across every hero in a single role was almost the standard.

Toronto Defiant possesses a great Tank line to lead the team through any matchup or game.

Support

  • Juseok “Twilight” Lee
  • Yoo-min “CH0R0NG” Sung

It would be difficult to consider a Support line “Championship Worthy” with one of two players being a rookie. That being said, when the other Support player is 2020 Overwatch League Champion Twilight, it’s a bit easier to be hopeful.

Twilight, having seen two Overwatch League Grand Finals, is one of the biggest names out of all Overwatch League Supports. Returning to Canada for the first time since early 2020, he looks to dominate once again, as he did while in Vancouver. Alongside him is a consistently good Main Support. CH0R0NG has never been in a position to carry a team as a Main Support, but he’s always served as a solid backbone to every team he’s been on. He wasn’t the most expected player to be picked up from Contenders, but once he was, people began to realize his worth.

DPS

  • Hee-su “Heesu” Jeong
  • Jung-woo “Finale” Lim
  • Hyun-wook “ALTHOUGH” Jung

Heesu the walking highlight reel is joined by two Flex DPS of very similar status. Finale and ALTHOUGH bring the same level and skill, and similar hero pools to the team. It is almost the opposite showing of what is seen in the Tank line. Heesu is reminiscent of Do-hyeon “Pine” Kim. His game sense and aim are both top-notch, making him a star Hitscan DPS. His presence on the front line is expected. What will be difficult is pulling Finale or ALTHOUGH to a starting spot considering their almost mirrored hero pools. Though both players are good at what they do, the lack of DPS flexibility could affect the ability to adapt to new metas.

Coaches

  • Dong-gun “KDG” Kim
  • Yang-won “Yang1” Kwon
  • Seung-bo “Mobydik” Sim

Defiant need not worry about player development. With one of the most experienced groups of coaches in the league this year, their rookies can be trained up to the all-star level in no time. KDG and Yang1 have been steadily improving the team, but with Mobydik now joining them, they have experience and input from a fresh place.

Toronto Defiant 2022 Power Ranking

Toronto is the team that many will not expect to come out swinging as hard as they will. The pieces are all there, but many can not see the completed puzzle. Toronto in the past has had either experienced players or talented ones. For the first time, they have both. This is the culmination of what the Toronto Defiant always wanted to be, and could’ve been. A top contending team with top-level players.
