Overwatch 2 enters testing with a closed beta to come in late April 2022.

Overwatch Game Director Aaron Keller shared some uplifting news regarding Overwatch 2 in the latest Developer Update.

In this video, Aaron Keller states that his team made great progress on the development of Overwatch 2. He recognizes that the communication regarding the project wasn’t ideal, to say the least.

The sequel to Activision Blizzard’s FPS was first announced at BlizzCon 2019. Since then, the developer didn’t reveal much about the game. But this comes to an end today, as Aaron Keller shares more news about Overwatch 2, including a new DPS hero, 4 new maps, a new ping system, as well as the 5v5 battles, Push game mode and hero reworks we already knew about.

To allow us to play Overwatch 2 sooner, Blizzard separates the PvP features of the game from the PvE systems.

Overwatch 2 Beta coming sooner than we expected

Keller had this to say about the upcoming beta:

“This closed beta will include a larger group of testers who we will ask to provide gameplay feedback. Our goal for this phase is to test our new features, content, and systems before we shift to stress-testing the servers with a wider player base in future Beta tests.”

With Overwatch 2  mainly being advertised as a PvE game in initial announcements. The upcoming Overwatch League Season is set to run on the PvP version of the game. Players will soon be able to test the new 5v5 format as well as the other changes brought by Overwatch 2. The game enters testing this week, with a closed alpha limited to Blizzard employees, Overwatch League pros and key partners.

If you would like to get your hands on Overwatch 2, you can try to get access to the closed PvP beta in late April by signing up on Overwatch’s official website. Several public betas will roll out later in the year so more players can try the game.
