I’ve spent years of my life traveling across Azeroth, fighting people, demons, monsters, boars, and murlocs in World of Warcraft. It’s been a long and glorious adventure, but there’s always been a problem. The one thing that’s always been missing, especially when you compare WoW to other MMOs like Lord of the Rings Online, Final Fantasy 14, or the Elder Scrolls Online, is the lack of player housing. There’s never been anywhere to call home, but after more than two decades, that’s about to change. In the next expansion, World of Warcraft Midnight, player housing will finally arrive.
During the Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct held on Wednesday November 13, Blizzard ended the presentation with a little teaser that showed a World of Warcraft adventurer opening a door to a house before entering, taking a swig from a nearby tankard, and resting before the fire. It’s a short teaser, but it finally confirms that in the next expansion for the venerable MMORPG, fans will finally get to claim a part of Azeroth as their own.
While it is only a short video, and of course things may change between now and the launch of World of Warcraft Midnight, there are a few details in the teaser that give a hint of how player housing may work. For a moment the camera lingers over a wall covered in mementos of glories past, such as the head of legendary dragon boss Nefarian and the Bulwark of Azzinoth from the Black Temple raid. Like other MMOs with player housing, it looks like you’ll be able to display your victories in your home, making it a permanent record of your character’s adventures.
Past that brief glimpse of the house itself, and the warrior in the Battlegear of Wrath raid set who’s home this is getting to rest Thunderfury against their chair before taking a break, there isn’t much more to report about player housing in WoW just yet. We’ll have to wait until Blizzard shares more, but in the meantime I’m sure home-hungry fans will be scouring the teaser video for every single possible detail.
There’s no release date for World of Warcraft Midnight just yet. If you’d like to catch up with all the latest news from the Warcraft Direct, head over to the official Blizzard site to learn more.
