Tonight, the Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves will be featured in primetime on Fox, and if you have yet to watch Spencer Strider pitch then this is your perfect chance. Strider is making his seventh start of the year for the 22-11 Atlanta Braves and he enters with a 2.57 ERA. On the other side, the 22-10 Baltimore Orioles will hand the ball to 1-1 Kyle Bradish who carries his 6.14 ERA into Atlanta.
The Braves are in first place in the NL East, but fell to the Orioles 9-4 last night. Baltimore is second in the AL East a staggering 4.5 games behind Tampa Bay. Let’s take a look at the odds for Game 2 of this three-game set with one of the most exciting pitchers in baseball on the mound for the Braves.
Orioles vs. Braves odds, run line and total
Orioles vs. Braves prediction and pick
Spencer Strider had the best start of his career back on April 24, but last time out he gave up four earned runs over five innings. It was the first time this season he’s had less than nine strikeouts in a start and he finished with eight. He is in the 99th percentile of strikeout percentage, 96th percentile in whiff rate, and 84th in chase rate. He strikes out 41% of the batters he faces.
This could be a test for Strider because the Orioles hitters are sixth in strikeouts this season, only striking out 260 times this season. They have also drawn the third most walks this year, so Strider will need to find a way to limit his free passes and be economical with his pitches. That’s his biggest issue, if you could say he even has any.
Kyle Bradish has an ERA up over six and that type of pitching isn’t going to fly against the Braves lineup. Over the past week they are fourth in OPS and their 14 home runs are the most in baseball for that stretch. The Braves are big favorites because of the pitching matchup and I can’t really argue. There’s no way I’m betting against Spencer Strider on national TV, I just can’t wait to watch it.
