Oppo has recently launched the Find X8 and Find X8 Pro in China, and vivo has done the same with the X200, X200 Pro, and X200 Pro mini. Both companies, however, have long been rumored to come out with respective Ultra models too, their all-out flagships for 2025.
And now a new rumor claims neither the Oppo Find X8 Ultra nor the vivo X200 Ultra will be officially sold outside of China. So if you want a high-end Oppo or vivo and aren’t in China, the Find X8 Pro and the X200 Pro are the best you’re ever going to get.
There will be no global launch for Vivo X200 UltraUltra flagships from both OPPO & Vivo are China exclusive— Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) December 4, 2024
If true, that is definitely disappointing, to say the least, but it’s not that surprising, as Chinese companies like Oppo and vivo and Xiaomi have resorted to such tactics before. We assume it all has to do with sales numbers outside of China being low enough for these ultra-expensive flagships that it’s deemed not worth the investment in global software optimization, but we can’t help but think these companies are missing the point – halo or aspirational products aren’t necessarily meant to be huge profit drivers themselves, but can attract a lot of people to a brand, even if most of them will end up buying cheaper products made by the same brand.
With this strategy, those who follow the industry will be disappointed in these brands, while of course those who don’t follow mobile news won’t care at all. We assume you’re in the former camp, so do let us know what you think about this – but do of course remember it’s just a rumor at this point.
