Larian’s post-launch journey with Baldur’s Gate 3 is almost at an end. The upcoming Patch 8 signals the final major update for the game, but at least it’s going out with a bang. There’s a photo mode, crossplay, and an array of new subclasses to make another playthrough incredibly exciting. We’ve just learned even more about how four of these new classes will work, and one of them puts respect on Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master.
Among many other things, Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 is introducing 12 all-new subclasses to the RPG. Each is the perfect excuse to revisit Larian’s landmark DnD game, and to keep us busy while we wait for the update to drop, we’ve just learned about what to expect from four of them.
In a new video, Larian details these fresh Baldur’s Gate 3 classes, and what they’ll mean for your playstyle. First up is the Paladin’s Oath of the Crown subclass, which is all about law and order. With intentions true, they can cast Divine Allegiance to absorb incoming damage and restore health. The class can also taunt enemies with interruptions, guide companions, and even has some new voiced dialogue interactions if they become an Oathbreaker.
The Fighter, meanwhile, has the Arcane Archer subclass. These heroes can infuse arrows with magical properties to enfeeble or even blind opponents. The Curving Shot action also means, if an arrow misses, it can change direction and hit someone else instead.
Monks can also take on the style of a Drunken Master, and recover ki by drinking alcohol they find on their travels. Intoxicating Strike can also get your foe drunk, which unsteadies them and buffs you. Intoxicated enemies are also susceptible to an array of unique attacks, so you should plan accordingly.
Lastly, we have the Ranger’s Swarmkeeper subclass. They have a unique connection to hiveminded spirits and can thus bend them to their will. There are even three types of swarms to pick from, which can help you in battle, move you across terrain, and knock enemies back.
As this is the second part in a series of looks at the 12 new subclasses, I’d expect Larian to release a video looking at the last four before Patch 8 finally arrives.
