Oblivion remake Skyblivion is almost finished, but the devs need some help

Although Skyrim has been ported and re-released to numerous platforms, Oblivion didn’t enjoy the same ongoing attention. A remaster has been touted, but since Bethesda has Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 to worry about, that might take a while. Enter: Skyblivion, a complete remake of Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine that’s due this year, 2025, and a status update reveals the finish line is in sight – but the team needs help.

A mammoth undertaking, Skyblivion has been in the works now for 13 years. The team, all volunteers, have been painstakingly recreating Oblivion from the ground up, merging the original RPG game with unused concepts and ideas to make something that truly celebrates the beloved release.

After over a decade, the unofficial remake will arrive sometime in 2025, and a video looking at the current status reveals just how close we are to playing the finished product. It’s revealed that most of the regions in the fantasy game are now done, with only Nibenay Basin and Nibenay Valley still to be finished, and Oblivion Realms needing more attention for smaller details.

The majority of questlines have completed first pass as well. Six haven’t been looked at by the team whatsoever, and most guilds are either on second pass or beyond or outright complete. In terms of the soundtrack, the entire original music is included, and 23 new compositions are being added.

One area the developers are actively looking for assistance in is the conversion of all Oblivion’s plant-life. It’s an aspect of the project that’s made some of the least progress, and the roadmap includes an active call for 3D artists who’re keen to get stuck into botany to reach out.

Though Skyblivion is nearly finished, there’s always space for more volunteers, and you can apply through the official site. The video closes by stating DLC and other quandaries will be handled once the base open-world game is out.

When it comes out, it’ll be one of the most impressive Skyrim mods to date. Have a look at our guides to The Elder Scrolls 6 and the best games like Skyrim for more swords and sorcery.
