Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 graphics cards reportedly won’t be out for months now

There’s potentially bad news if you were hoping to pick up a new budget gaming GPU soon, as the launch of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5060 lineup has reportedly been postponed. Seeing as Nvidia hasn’t even officially confirmed the existence of these GPUs, let alone the release dates, this can’t be technically described as a delay, but the latest rumors suggest Nvidia’s board partners, who make graphics cards based on the GPUs, expected the GPUs to be released well before this timeframe.

This latest report follows a recent RTX 5060 launch date rumor, which suggested the new Nvidia GPUs were all set to be announced on March 13, which quickly turned out to be entirely incorrect, with Nvidia not even making a mention of the new GPUs. If you’re looking to get the best graphics card for a low price, then it looks as though you’re going to have to wait a while longer.

According to a post on the Board Channels tech forums, which was spotted by Videocardz, Nvidia has notified its board partners that “the release will be delayed again.” The post claims that the first GPUs in the lineup to be launched, the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB and 5060 Ti 16GB, will “probably be delayed to mid-April,” while the cheaper RTX 5060 GPU “will probably be released in mid-May.” The post also notes that “the specific time is subject to further notification from NV.”

As with all rumor stories, bear in mind that absolutely none of the above has been officially confirmed by Nvidia. In fact, the company hasn’t said a word about any RTX 5060 GPUs at all yet, so take this all with the appropriate grain of salt for now.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if Nvidia had chosen to release these new GPUs in April and May, however, or even later, whether they were indeed initially scheduled for March or not. Nvidia has significant problems meeting demand with supply of its current RTX 5000 lineup, with RTX 5090 stock being incredibly hard to find, especially at the $1,999 MSRP, and it’s hard to find where to buy 5070 cards as well.

Historically, Nvidia hasn’t released its 60-series GPUs immediately after its high-end and mid-range GPUs either. For example, the RTX 4060 was released in June, 2023, with the RTX 4060 Ti coming out in May 2023, a good seven months after the RTX 4090 release date in October 2022. Given the current supply problems, it would be absurd for Nvidia to release the RTX 5060 lineup in March, just two months after the RTX 5090 release date, especially when there’s likely to be huge demand for the RTX 5060.
