Former Arsenal footballer Nicklas Bendtner has launched an esports-focused investment and management company called Legendary Gaming Group.
The new company has already acquired majority stakes in several esports companies, including New Breed Agency, Legendary Arena and a yet-unnamed esports and gaming brand. Esports Insider has also learned that Legendary Gaming Group has acquired 100% of Danish esports organisation Team Singularity.
Nicklas Bendtner is known for his tenure at Premier League football club Arsenal where he garnered a cult following that referred to him as ‘Lord Bendtner’. Away from the pitch, the former footballer is a well-known fan of esports and represented Team Denmark at the BLAST Premier Fall showmatch in 2022. Bendtner launched an esports organisation called Prosapia Esports in 2022, but the team has been dormant since 2023.
According to a release, Bendtner and his associates have been working on the new investment venture since early 2024. The company also aims to raise seed capital to initiate its plans for the next three years.
Legendary Gaming Group’s most notable acquisition is Team Singularity. When asked about the company’s stake in the organisation, Atle S. Stehouwer, the Founder and Co-Owner of Team Singularity, confirmed to Esports Insider that Legendary Gaming Group has acquired 100% of the team.
Detailing how the acquisition took place, Stehouwer sent the following comment: “In October last year, I was able to obtain all the shares in Team Singularity as the previous majority owners were looking to sell their shares, and I was super excited to finally acquire 100% ownership of Team Singularity for the first time since co-founding the company in April 2016.
“However, the acquisition also came with a personal desire to find the right place for Team Singularity to thrive and develop into the company and brand I know it has the opportunity to be. For the past two years, after being passive in Team Singularity’s operations, I’ve been in talks with numerous potential partners about various opportunities in the market and potentially starting something new.
“I’m thrilled and honoured to have found a proper home for Team Singularity under the Legendary Gaming Group wings and to have been able to bring a strong ownership group together to form the foundation of Legendary Gaming Group.”
Interestingly, Bendtner is joined by CEO and Co-Founder Morten Høj Jensen, who was the CEO of Tricked Esport, a Danish organisation that shut down in 2023.
Co-founder of Legendary Gaming Group, Nicklas Bendtner, commented: “I am really pleased with the team we have assembled at Legendary and look forward to being part of something bigger in an industry I am fascinated by. My own role in the company will be an active one, but what the exact title will be is not 100% decided yet, as it also depends on what roles the other sports profiles coming in will have.”
