In an eerily similar situation to Justin Fields, CJ Stroud is finding himself being attacked by outlets and analysts ahead of the NFL Draft.
Here we go again with the slander against Ohio State quarterbacks leading up to the NFL Draft. Two years ago, it was Justin Fields, and now it comes with CJ Stroud.
Most recently, the latter Buckeye quarterback was the subject of “quotes from sources” of former Notre Dame quarterback and first-round pick Brady Quinn that stated that Stroud “ghosted” an appearance at the Manning Passing Academy after previously committing to appear.
This continues a theme over recent weeks as there have been numerous reports attacking the work ethic and seemingly the character of Stroud.
NFL media leading charge to tank CJ Stroud’s draft stock
It’s already being reported that the Houston Texans are hesitant to take Stroud with the No. 2 pick should the Panthers pass on him because Stroud’s agent is the same as Deshaun Watson. Last we checked, David Mulugheta is not Watson. Yes, Houston had an awful experience and handling in the case of their former quarterback, but why should that immediately disqualify a completely different player.
As for Stroud, why is he in this situation? Is stuff being made up and/or leaked by an organization in an attempt to get Stroud to fall and help him land on another team? Is it looking for engagement or likes? Is there something to Stroud’s work ethic? It’s the ugly side of NFL Draft rumors that we don’t know the source or, frankly, the truth.
It’s clear, though, that there is some sort of agenda regarding CJ Stroud. And in the hopes of young men succeeding, let’s hope this becomes something to laugh at as the Ohio State product goes on to have a successful NFL career.
