Where does Warzone Fortune’s Keep take place? The Fortune’s Keep Resurgence mode introduced two brand-new maps to Warzone back during the Call of Duty Vanguard era, and fans have been desperate to see a return to the smaller, faster battle royale mode.
As the Warzone Season 2 release date nears, and MW3 Season 2 with it, new mechanics, maps, and modes are on the way. Warzone fans have been clamoring for the return of Rebirth Island, and while that map has been confirmed for 2024, Fortune’s Keep is first to return to the battle royale game, with the new Warzone map locked in for season 2.
Warzone Fortune’s Keep release date
The Warzone Fortune’s Keep release date is Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at the launch of season 2. The update should trigger at 9AM PT / 2PM ET / 5PM GMT.
Fortune’s Keep was first released on June 22, 2022, as part of the Mercenaries of Fortune season. One of the Resurgence maps, alongside Rebirth Island, Fortune’s Keep is smaller than the main Warzone map, and is made for faster, more intense battle royale combat.
It seems that the Fortune’s Keep map will be slightly different this time around, following the effects of a devastating earthquake or other disaster. A selection of Call of Duty content creators were sent models of different POIs as part of the reveal. All those that have been seen so far contain feature significant damage. For example, Outlaws creator Majin was sent the Winery. In a tweet shared by Call of Duty, Majin points out that there is a new “crack”, running through the POI. This also seems to have been confirmed in images of Fortune’s Keep seen in the Walking Dead collaboration trailer above.
Fortune’s Keep POIs
There are 12 POIs on the original Fortune’s Keep map. If they all remain the same in Warzone Season 2, this is every familiar location we can expect to see:
- Keep
- Bay
- Winery
- Camp
- Lighthouse
- Smuggler’s Cove
- Overlook
- Town
- Grotto
- Graveyard
- Gatehouse
- Terraces
The Keep and the Winery are among those locations already confirmed, but a new coastal location we’ve never seen before also seems to have been teased in one of the creator packages. ModernWarzone tweeted screenshots of Kesto’s package, showing the new dock.
Where is Fortune’s Keep based?
While Fortune’s Keep is a fictional location, the island is “inspired by real world locations in the Mediterranean,” confirmed by High Moon creative director Matt Krystek during the original Fortune’s Keep release.
In the Fortune’s Keep release blog from June 2022, Krystek also said, “We wanted this map to be timeless and feel like it could be a real location that you could visit. Narratively, there is also some great contrast in having an area that was once used to fight against pirates now taken over by a group of mercs and smugglers.” Judging from the red and cream architecture, Italy would be a natural parallel to draw.
Now, all there is to do until this fan-favorite map and mode returns to Warzone in Season 2. In the meantime, get your favorite Warzone loadouts ready with the best Warzone guns, including all the best Warzone sniper rifles and ARs for the current meta.
