Vampire Survivors already has an eyewatering number of playable characters, and now it’s teaming up with a classic JRPG series to add several more to its roster – plus, it’s also adding some chicken-themed mayhem. The best part is that both of these updates are completely free.
Let’s start with that crossover, because it’s a big one. When it comes to Square Enix RPGs, Final Fantasy is of course the top dog, but not far behind is the beloved SaGa series. In Vampire Survivors’ new Emerald Diorama update, more than a dozen characters from the series are diving into the roguelike bullet hell. On top of that, you’ve got over 16 new weapons to play with, and some new mechanics too that have been borrowed from SaGa. The Glimmer system gives you the chance to learn a special ability every time you slay enemies with any of the new weapons, while Showstoppers give SaGa characters a huge, tide-turning boost when they drop to critically low health levels.
Emerald Diorama also introduces a new, seven-biome stage that sees you jump between different worlds.
Updates of this size are usually thrown into Vampire Survivors as paid DLC, but this one is completely free for everyone, which is awesome to see. To unlock the SaGa content, find the new merchant in Moongolow and buy the Emerald Disk for 50,000 gold coins.
Alongside Emerald Diorama is a smaller free update called The Coop, which doesn’t turn to classic IP for its inspiration. Instead, it’s all about… chickens? This features a new relic that lets you increase the game speed (just in case Vampire Survivors wasn’t already frantic enough for you), alongside another new stage, character, weapon, and darkana. To unlock The Coop’s content, all you’ve got to do is rack up a lifetime total of 500 Floor Chickens.
As if all of that wasn’t enough, two new adventures have also been added – one called To End an Ice Age for the base game, and another for the Tides of the Foscari DLC.
