Masaru Oyamada has announced during the Mana series 30th anniversary livestream that a new console entry in the venerable Square Enix RPG franchise is currently in development. There’s not much to go on right now as the project is understandably in the very early stages of production, but Oyamada-san did have the following to say to whet our appetites:It would have been good if we could make a cool video announcement with a bang, but the 30th anniversary has just begun. To be honest, we are developing it. We are working on it, but please wait a little longer for the announcement. In fact, Mr. Ishii [creator of the Mana series and CEO of Grezzo] took a look at it the other day. That’s how far we’ve come, so I hope you’ll look forward to it. We still have a long way to go in development…. We’re preparing to release it on consoles, and we’d be glad if you can wait for it.Fans have been waiting a long time for a full-fledged entry in the Mana series, as the last title launched in 2007 for the DS in the shape of Heroes of Mana. Since then, we’ve got remakes, mobile games and web-browser offerings.Still, at least we now have confirmation that a new Mana for consoles is in the pipeline.[Source – RPGSite]
