It’s been almost a decade since Fallout 4 blessed PCs across the world, and while Starfield only launched back in 2023, it doesn’t scratch the same apocalyptic itch that a fifth game in the iconic Fallout franchise will hopefully offer one day. While we’ve still got some time to kill between now and an eventual sequel, Rebellion’s Atomfall could be a great stopgap between entries – and if you’ve been meaning to pre-order it, Fanatical is offering a special discount.
While it remains to be seen whether Atomfall is destined to become one of the best RPGs of all time when it arrives later this month, I’m still feeling pretty excited, to say the least. The role-playing game’s setting in the gorgeous landscape of Cumbria in the UK certainly helps it to stand out against Fallout’s flattened, gloomy locales, and with some light survival game mechanics, I’m hoping it can find a spot in a fairly crowded market.
Based on Nat’s experience so far in our Atomfall preview, it’s safe to say that it’s shaping up well. She explains that “It’s difficult to decouple Atomfall from the Bethesda formula, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing,” complimenting the open-world game’s setting and overall atmosphere.
Based on the real-life events of the Windscale nuclear incident, which in Atomfall’s universe, caused a quarantine zone in Cumbria (then known as Cumberland), as you traverse Atomfall’s take on the British countryside, you’ll need to scavenge, craft, and fight in a world that is filled with cults, mysticism, rogue government agencies, and more.
Despite the 1960s setting of Atomfall, there’s no shortage of technology to find within this FPS game. Of course, you’ve got classic-style armaments, allowing you to enter firefights with old guns, but you’ve also got giant steampunk-style robots parading around towns as well as weird BioShock-like weapons and locales to find and explore.
If you’ve been planning to grab this action game, you can pre-order Atomfall for just $39.99 / £35.99 on Fanatical. That’s a 20% discount ahead of the Atomfall release date, and if you’re willing to take a bigger risk on this new IP, you can also opt for the deluxe edition which has a similar discount, offering you the expansion that is releasing later as well as three days early access to the game.
Make sure to check out the Atomfall system requirements before you pre-order. In any case, grabbing any new PC games at a huge discount is always a great experience, so if you’re on an RPG kick like me (thanks to Avowed and Kingdom Come Deliverance 2), I’m sure you’ll find this to be a great offer.
