If you’re a fan of Diablo-style dungeon crawlers, tabletop RPGs, and adorable pixel graphics, then Dark Quest 4 is for you. Set to release this fall, the ARPG, which is heavily inspired by TTRPG Hero Quest, has just been announced, and its new trailer showcases the game’s stunning visuals and in-game mechanics.

In Dark Quest 4, you’re prompted to build a party of three heroes and take on hand-crafted missions in an environment made to look and feel like a board game come to life. With animated figures running around and a voiced dungeon master overseeing your mission, the RPG brings the charm of real-life tabletop games right to your PC.

In the gameplay trailer above, we see a few turns play out while the game master narrates the moves – it’s literally a TTRPG played out in front of your eyes. You can play solo or join with up to two friends to create a three-person party as you embark on your quest. Be sure to choose the right peers to team up with, though, as strategy and imagination are the key to success.

There’s also a built-in level editor and Steam Workshop integration, allowing you to explore countless adventures made by the community, yourself, or your friends.

The seemingly simple HUD and UI also make the game feel much less intimidating compared the sprawling 4X game feel of Civilization 7, or the complexity of Dungeons and Dragons, which is music to my ears. Whether you’re looking for something to sit down and play with your pals, or something a little less convoluted than Baldur’s Gate 3, simple is sometimes better.

Dark Quest 4, which is set drop in Fall 2025, will feature 30+ hours of campaign content with a range of unique quests and challenges to take on.

The latest entry to the beloved Dark Quest series is standalone, so don’t fret if you haven’t dabbled in the range of titles before. You can wishlist the game on Steam now, however, there’s no confirmed price information just yet.
