Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is already a record breaker and, generally speaking, is earning the admiration of FPS fans (myself very much included). However, the new CoD’s multiplayer experience does have a few things holding it back from being truly exceptional right now. Fear not, because this new Black Ops 6 update is taking a swing at some of those issues, with improvements to weapon and player XP gain, more tweaks to spawn logic, and a balancing pass that affects some of the most popular guns in the game.
Even with Black Ops 6 Season 1 right around the corner, Treyarch is wasting no time in making things as tight as possible before all of that new content comes flooding into the multiplayer game. One issue that’s been bugging me is that weapon and player levelling has felt a bit on the slow side – let’s put it this way, the recently extended double XP weekend was very much needed. Even when playing well and on the winning team, playing core modes in Black Ops 6 has not felt as effective at levelling up as the smaller, more frantic Face Off modes. Or Zombies, for that matter. In this new patch, Treyarch is switching the script.
“Adjusted Player XP and Weapon XP earn rates for most modes to ensure that players are being rewarded for their match performance as expected wherever they play,” a new set of patch notes reads. Weapon XP has been upped for “most modes,” while player XP is only being increased in Team Deathmatch, Control, Gunfight, and Search and Destroy. Conversely, due to it being a haven for XP farmers, Face Off modes have experienced a “slight decrease” in both player and weapon XP gains.
Elsewhere in the update, there has been “general spawn logic tuning across several maps” to help combat some of the questionable spawns I and many other players have been witnessing since launch. Treyarch does state that this is an “ongoing process” of analyzing player data and reviewing gameplay, so don’t expect this patch to be a miracle and deliver perfect spawn logic straight away. However, it should be a step in the right direction.
Perks have also been put under the microscope, with that long-awaited nerf to the Recon Combat Specialty finally here. Instead of seeing highlighted enemies for two seconds when you spawn up, it’ll now be one and a half seconds, and Treyarch says another nerf to this duration will be coming “before Season 1.” The Dispatcher perk has also been slightly nerfed, as UAVs will now cost 550 score and Counter UAVs will cost 600.
There’s also been a big weapon tuning pass dishing out further shotgun nerfs and tweaks to several popular assault rifles and submachine guns, including the C9, the XM4, and the Tanto. You can find the full breakdown of all the balancing tweaks, and everything else in this new Black Ops 6 update, in the official patch notes here.
So, it sounds like it might be time to give your best Black Ops 6 loadouts a spruce with these new balance changes. Even if your favorite gun has been dialed back a bit, the improvements to player XP earn rates will at least make your journey through the Black Ops 6 Prestige system a little easier.
