A new game mode for the upcoming FPS Battlefield 2042 called Portal was announced at EA Play Live. It allows users to mix up the game rules from four different Battlefield games to create something unique. ScreenRant has a fantastic breakdown from a preview event, but here are the broad strokes of what is going on in the trailer above. Battlefield Portal will allow players to mix various components from 2042 and three other games in the series — Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3. Developed by Dice and Ripple Effect, assets from all three games can be mixed and matched to create a new game mode. The mix of vehicles, weapons, and gadgets from previous games can be used to create new, potentially amazing (and/or catastrophic) modes with an entire rulebook to play with. There will be tutorials, custom logic editors, and you can share your creations with the community, which is sure to produce some fan-favourite ways to play the game. Arguably, the most exciting part of all this is that the maps from the older games — Battle of the Bulge and El Alamein from 1942, Arica Harbor and Valparaiso from Bad Company 2, and Caspian Border and Noshahr Canals from BF3 — are all being updated to modern BF 2042 standards. This includes the way the game will handle ‘levelution’ moments and the damage model from 1942, and introduces the weather changes in 2042 that seem to be sweeping through the older maps. More content will be added over time, too. The launch content is visible below:The mode will come with Battlefield 2042 at launch on October 22nd, and nearly everyone on the TA staff is super keen to get their hands on this game. How about you lot? Excited about what the community could make? Terrified? Let us know in the comments.
