A batch of 349 original Xbox prototype games has been uploaded to the Project Deluge archive by the preservation group, Hidden Palace.Hidden Palace is a preservation site that contains what the group calls “Project Deluge.” This project is focused on releasing a large amount of game preview material in the way of betas and prototypes to preserve them (thanks, VGC). We had already seen uploads for PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Sega Saturn, and Philips CD-i, but now Dreamcast and original Xbox materials have been added.”From unreleased games, early prototypes, tech demos, localization prototypes, debugging builds, and some near-final builds with debugging features enabled, this part of the lot has you covered. It’s somewhat fitting too, since the Xbox was a spiritual successor to the Dreamcast in a way,” the site says.In fact, a whopping 349 original Xbox prototypes are now included in the Project Deluge collection. Amongst the list of titles are unreleased ports of games like Pac-Man World Rally and American Idol, as well as He-Man: Defender of Grayskull, Hail to the Chimp, and an English version of Dinosaur Hunting: Ushinawareta Daichi sitting amongst them.”What’s interesting about most of the Xbox prototypes is just how many of them are actually unreleased. Given that Microsoft was a relative newcomer to the video game industry at the time,” the site reads. “There was most likely doubt over whether or not the Xbox was even going to be a success at the time, so most developers may not have been willing to put some of their games on the platform.”Project Deluge has been in the care of Hidden Palace for nearly a year and a half, with the group checking each title to verify differing software from the final release versions. You can see the full list of prototype and beta games on the Hidden Palace website.
