Nacon’s new gaming mic has some surprisingly good specs and features, costs $130

Nacon just revealed its brand new microphone for gamers and content creators, the RIG M2 Streamstar. Also known as the M2 HD Pro, this microphone is the first USB mic to also have a built-in Bluetooth audio gateway, meaning you can connect your headset or earbuds directly to the mic for low-latency audio monitoring.

On paper, Nacon has put together one of the best gaming microphones, not only with the new feature, but also in part thanks to its 24-bit depth and 192kHz sampling rate, which it claims results in studio quality output.

I’m currently in the process of reviewing the RIG M2 Streamstar, and can speak the the audio quality in question. The process of connecting a Bluetooth headset to the mic is also seamless, but there’s another thing worth shouting about regarding this mic… the price.

At $129.99, Nacon appears to be attempting to disrupt the USB microphone market, given that, again on paper, the M2 Streamstar has many major competitors beaten on specs. That includes the likes of the Elgato Wave 3, Logitech Yeti GX, HyperX Quadcast 2, and Rode X XCM-50.

Most of these microphones launched at around the $150 price point, meaning that the M2 Streastar undercuts this substantially. The only issue is that most of the microphones are quite old, so finding brand new models for well below MSRP is quite easy. If you’re working with a budget, these other models will still be very attractive.

Where the M2 Streamstar will struggle is build quality, as it’s mostly made of plastic and the included stand is very flimsy. However, If this $129.99 price was made possible due to compromising the build quality but maximizing the audio quality, I think it’s a smart play. This is especially given that most content creators will mount their microphone, meaning the need for a strong build quality is almost moot, as it doesn’t need to survive potential drops or fumbles on the desktop.

I’m keen to see how the M2 Streamstar is perceived by content creators and gamers alike, and my review will be live shortly so I can give you my full thoughts then.
