MultiVersus gets its first major tournament this weekend at Evo 2022, with $100,000 in prizes up for grabs for the top players — the biggest pot in Evo history, and MultiVersus isn’t even one of the headline games!MultiVersus didn’t launch in time to be considered as one of the headline games for Evo 2022, but Warner still managed to get its new fighter some stage time by arranging a six-figure prize pool. Previous top pots have capped out around the $70,000 mark for headlining Street Fighter games, making this inaugural MultiVersus tourney the most lucrative Evo has ever held.Character rebalancing coming to MultiVersus, but not until after Evo 2022Developer Player First Games is clearly taking this huge debut very seriously, and director Tony Huynh has been extremely active on Twitter responding to fans asking about upcoming bug fixes and rebalancing changes. By the sounds of things, the team is aiming to have one new build ready specifically for the big Evo tournament itself, focusing on key bug fixes (such as Bugs’ double rocket glitch and Batman’s dodgy grapple), while another public update containing more balance-focused tweaks will follow after the event is over to save pulling the rug from under Evo participants and forcing them to relearn match-ups and move properties at the last minute. Huynh has mentioned, among other things, we can expect to see buffs for Wonder Woman and Taz (after his spin move was nerfed into the ground) and hits to Bugs and likely Finn, whose weird hitboxes (along with being currently free) are seeing him run rampant in the current meta.Evo 2022 runs from August 5th-7th, with the MultiVersus top 32 starting at 3pm PT on August 6th. Which characters and teams will come out on top? Any changes you want or expect to see in the post-Evo update? Let us know!
